Gale-CLGBTH Non-Residential Fellowships

Call for Proposals
2022 Gale-CLGBTH Non-Residential Fellowships

Gale and the Committee on LGBT History, in collaboration with the Queer History Conference 2022, seek applications for five (5) Non-Residential Fellowships, which will support research or teaching projects that use Gale’s Archives of Sexuality and Gender and use digital humanities methodologies. Awarded fellows will be given access to Archives of Sexuality and Gender and the Gale Digital Scholar Lab for the duration of their fellowship. Proposals from any subfield within LGBT studies are welcome, but applicants must make clear how they will use digital methods and the Archives of Sexuality and Gender corpus to further their research and/or teaching.

Each of these five non-residential fellows will receive $2,500 and access to Gale’s Archives of Sexuality and Gender and the Gale Digital Scholar Lab. Awardees will also receive training on how to use Gale Digital Scholar Lab. Work is expected to be completed by December 31, 2022. Each fellowship will support the equivalent of one-month’s full-time work (160 hours). Awardees may dedicate four consecutive weeks of their full working hours to the fellowship project, or they may spread their work out over a longer period.

Within one (1) month of the conclusion of their Fellowship, each awardee will submit a 2–3 page case study derived from their work that explains how they used the corpus of materials in Archives of Sexuality and Gender and the tools in Gale Digital Scholar Lab.

How to apply:
In a single pdf document, applicants are asked to provide the following information:

1. Contact information, including name, email address, phone number, and mailing address

2. A proposed project title

3. A research project proposal of up to 500 words that addresses in part how the project would benefit with use of Gale’s Archives of Sexuality and Gender and the Gale Digital Scholar Lab

Applications should be sent to CLGBTH Co-Chairs Eric Gonzaba and Chelsea Del Rio at clgbth.cochairs@gmail.com.

Applications are due at 11:59 PM PST on April 18, 2022

Virtual Information Sessions
To learn more about the non-residential fellowship, the CLGBTH and Gale will co-host two virtual information sessions, where Gale will discuss with potential applications the functionality of Gale Digital Scholar Lab and the Archives of Sexuality and Gender. CLGBTH representatives will also field questions regarding the application process. These sessions are completely optional for applicants.

Dates of Virtual Information Sessions:

Applicants are evaluated by a review board convened by The Committee on LGBT History. Notifications of awards will be sent out by mid-May. A formal press release is expected to be sent out at the 2022 Queer History Conference in June.
